In March 2019, the entertainment industry was abuzz with news of Katherine Heigl’s casting as the lead in a new CBS comedy, “Our House.” This marked a significant departure for the actress, as she had primarily been known for her dramatic roles. However, it wasn’t the first time Heigl found herself in the spotlight for her career choices.

More than ten years ago, Heigl made headlines for her comments about her role in the hit movie “Knocked Up.” At the time, her remarks seemed to have a detrimental effect on her career, causing many to believe it was all over for her.

Back in 2007, Heigl was at the peak of her fame. She had just won an Emmy Award for her exceptional performance in the drama series “Grey’s Anatomy” and had successfully transitioned to the big screen with “Knocked Up,” co-starring Seth Rogen.

However, things took a turn when Heigl openly criticized her own work in an interview with Vanity Fair in January of the following year. Her candid remarks sparked immediate backlash, given the overwhelming success of the beloved film.

Both Judd Apatow, the writer-director of “Knocked Up,” and Seth Rogen shared their confusion and disappointment regarding Heigl’s comments in a joint interview with Howard Stern. Apatow couldn’t understand why she would speak negatively about a movie that had resonated so well with audiences and critics alike.

Rogen, on the other hand, found Heigl’s criticisms to be hypocritical, considering her involvement in the rom-com “The Ugly Truth,” which portrayed women in a similar manner.

Heigl’s career further suffered when she withdrew her name from Emmy contention in 2008, effectively burning bridges in the television industry. This decision was met with disapproval, especially from “Grey’s Anatomy” showrunner Shonda Rhimes.

Reflecting on the incident, Rhimes expressed her lack of surprise during an interview with Oprah Winfrey, believing that Heigl’s actions aligned with her true character.

Despite the public fallout, Heigl and Seth Rogen have seemingly resolved their differences. During an interview with Howard Stern in 2016, Rogen fondly spoke about their time working together and expressed compassion for Heigl’s struggles.

Heigl, acknowledging her mistakes, attended therapy to cope with the stress caused by her tarnished reputation. In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, she responded to Rogen’s kind remarks and expressed her desire for a fresh start.

It remains to be seen whether Heigl can rebuild her reputation in Hollywood. Nevertheless, her experiences serve as a cautionary tale about the potential consequences of speaking openly about one’s work and the importance of maintaining professional relationships.
